01:08:14
This is strong analysis, All. Feel free to continue to respond to each other as well. We're good on time.

01:08:16
Re: Philando Castille: The video of that baby girl trying to calm her momma down so that law enforcement wouldn't shoot her too still breaks my heart. Everything that you are sharing with us is resonating with me in a huge way. Thank you so much for presenting today and representing the beautiful black diaspora in immigration. You're sparking many ideas for my own community right now.

A gentle time check: we're right on time. It's 3:46, and we have a few questions in the Q&A. Those questions ask about policies that leave our Black migrants, how to build more trusting relationships with detained clients, and encouragement for Black and Brown attorneys to take up the call for deportation defense.

01:32:38
leave out*

01:33:00
Hello everyone. Thank you to all the speakers on the panel today. Annette Price, Grassroots Leadership, Austin, Texas

01:33:27
Should we skip the the Philadelphia Council member’s question and go straight to the last question?

01:33:38
Thank you so much for being here today, Annette.

01:34:09
We're good! Stick to the Councilmember's question please :)

01:34:15
OK

01:34:58
You can pass over the Q&A back to Arisel by 4:15, and I'll prompt you closer to then.

01:36:05
Tsion, you're also welcome to skip the last question altogether and just answer it yourself with the calls to action + sign-on plug. The calls to action essentially answer that question.

01:36:29
Ok- I’ll see where time is at that pt

01:39:04
In affirming all that you're saying, I also want to highlight the importance of BIPOC immigration judges. In my experience, judges of color have a much deeper understanding and recognition of the burdens on our clients and the barriers in their way. Obviously they are still limited by the law and system, but their understanding and grasp of our clients' experiences is invaluable.

01:40:14
YES TSION! Thanks for combining those. I think that was the right call. :)

01:45:28
I think you have enough time to re-up that last question Tsion.

01:46:15
Please enter your questions into this chat or the Q&A

01:46:51
1. Ensure Black voices are centered in the immigration conversation and public narrative regarding immigrants’ rights.2. Ensure that Black leadership is part of key decision making and agenda setting in immigration advocacy.3. Challenge anti-Blackness in our movements, coalitions, and communities wherever we see it.4. Support local efforts to divest from harmful structures (e.g., policing) and invest in Black communities.5. Support and advance efforts like universal representation for all immigrants facing deportation.

That was such a powerful conversation, thanks All - just a few questions. We're at 4:03 and will end the Q&A around 4:28.

01:53:16
Thank you so much for that insight, Deborah—the lack of frequent dissemination of immigration updates in our Black communities. Even more reason to keep framing immigration as an explicitly Black issue and pushing that narrative and learning forward.

01:57:39
That’s right—while I was clerking at the immigration court, I saw outrageous bond amounts for Black and (truly) darker-skinned respondents.

01:59:30
@Tsion you are more than welcome to answer any of these questions as well!

02:00:02
Thank you all!

02:00:48
Yes Breanne! Exactly this is why we need to divest from ICE and their $8.4 Billion budget. Imagine $40K bonds! How many houses for working class people can we make down payments on if we divested from ICE/CBP?

02:03:54
Tsion you should answer this one too!

02:04:04
I will

02:07:56
Yesss! What Kayla and Tsion said we need as many Black imm attorneys who fight for clients as much as possible because there's ALOT OF SCAMMERS out here!

02:08:21
VERY interested in this BAJI/L4BL collaboration opportunity for Black imm attorneys!
