statewide recruitment is a fabulous idea. How can we sell that to DOCCS-NY?

We've considered that also in our program, but there has recently been much growth in HEP programs in our state.

A question for Dr. Andrisse: in terms of the asset-based model that you describe, some obvious ones come to mind: resilience, persistence, creativity in navigating bureaucracies that are designed to frustrate, etc. Are there other, less obvious assets and strengths that you find that folks working in the field miss? How easy or difficult is it to generalize?

I want to refine my second question: Our classification and movement program are pulled in multiple directions when making placement decisions: Right now, the primary drivers are security level and open beds. I am wondering how your placement division were able to prioritize program and education needs given diverse and divergent pulls on bed placements?

If our faculty and staff are predominantly white, what can we do to have a more diverse group of applicants feel comfortable enough to apply and seek employment with our school?

Sean, an you talk more about Student advisory committee? How did they form, What was the DOC response? Any barriers? Are they connected to the college student leadership/governance programs?

The Virginia Community College System has a Minority Fellows Program where professionals in the workforce who have the required masters degree (per credentialing guidelines) and graduate students who have at least 18 graduate hours but haven't yet graduated can apply for adjunct teaching positions and will be assigned a mentor to assist them in their first semester of teaching. A person can apply to a single site and indicate any of the 23 state community colleges they'd be interested in. The hope is to create a pipeline to full-time teaching opportunities. Do other states have similar programs?
